Each town in Menorca has its patronal celebration, where horses are the protagonists. This is manifested in the evolution of the ride, and, especially, in its culmination: the 'caragol' and the 'jaleo'.
The celebration of San Juan, during June in Ciutadella, opens the summer cycle of the festivities. These are the oldest and most spectacular. The celebration of this festival dates back to medieval times, and it follows ancient protocols. Both horses and knights are adorned with traditional pieces, which adds more festivity to the party.
These festivities are celebrated successively in all the towns of the island throughout the summer. It ends in September with the festivities of the Virgen de Gracia in Mahón.
